For the first time, I worked on transforming a digital 3D model into a physical product and a cool brand experience: a lighter case. The idea started with paper sketches and rough explorations of shapes and fittings, trying to create something simple and very functional against all the terrible lighter thieves out there. From the concept to the print, all focus was on turning an everyday object into something intentional, tactile and branded.
Challenges
The main challenge was moving from a digital model to a physical product that actually works in the real world. Designing a precise fit, balancing minimalistic aesthetics with personality and making sure the case felt durable required multiple iterations. The first versions looked good only on screen, as tolerances and finishing details only appear later in the process.
Another key challenge was understanding that refinement took most of the effort. Roughly 70% of the structure came together really quickly, but the final 30%, like fit precision and all the details involved, took the majority of the project time.
Achievements
• Delivered a functional lighter case through five design iterations, increasing print success rates and reducing print time.
• Achieved a correct fit for large lighters and improved durability by testing multiple materials and textures.
• Built a scalable 3D model that enables quick adaptation to other lighter sizes and brands, cutting future modeling time and opening the door for other production runs.
